Would you like to make a book with AI?
A few plug-n-play applications that will make you into an AI writer in no time
Hi Everyone, thanks for signing up, and welcome to another edition of The Novice. I apologize for being a bit late with this installment, as I was rather busy with SmartyNames.com
Todd from GeekWire and his team did a fantastic job interviewing me about the future of AI in everyday life, and I want to make sure they get as much credit as possible. If you are curios, they are great! Article , Podcast
Today, I want to show you how easy it is to make your own book/comic/blog using artificial intelligence. It’s much easier than it sounds.
Let’s start by making some inspirational images.
How to make images with AI.
StockIMG.ai is a lovely tool to try various image prompts. It is nothing more than a front-end on top of Stable Diffusion, but it is very cheap, and intuitive, and it gives you some free credits to start. Sign up, give it a request, and see what happens.
For example:
“A snowy ski town with lots of natural light, during the night, with street lamps turned on.”
Look at the image I got. I think it looks really nice; honestly a lot nice than anything I was envisioning. No code, and no photography skills required.
Can you imagine what this will do to photography and art industry?
Today various magazines for real estate, sports, clothing, they all pay professional photographers to capture the world for them. They pay artists to make sketches, and images just like the one above. What happens when we are able to generate those images in a click, no humans required, a million times faster and more accurate than dealing with a professional?
This is going to be an absolute game changer and will destroy many jobs. From web content, to postcards, to art, to your family photos, AI will enable instant creation of images that previously took time and planning. Amazing, and potentially devastating for some. Maybe not.
I would agree with Naval on this one. Sure, many jobs as we know them are going away with AI tech, but if the professionals doing those jobs pay attention and learn quickly, this technology will augment their skills, making them 100x more powerful.
Here is another one for your entertainment: “A robot that is moving boxes under pressure.”, the result is once again pretty quite good. I imagine this is what an Amazon Warehouse looks like in the Metaverse.
So, now that you know how to make images with AI, what can you do with it? Let’s actually be more specific - what can you do with it in one week?
Let’s make a book!
The Future of Books using AI image generators
This should give you a good idea of what the future of books could look like. Much the same technique that you would use above is now used to create characters for kids’ stories.
My friend Sam used ChatGPT and Midjourney in order to create a book. He first prompted ChatGPT for ideas for what a good children’s book would look like, came up with a narrative, picked the main story line, and then generated images to fit main points in the plot.
Midjourney is by the way another AI image generator, specifically for cartoon looking images.
It’s a long post, and what I really liked about it is that he posted image generation prompts next to every image, so you can clearly see the difference between requests. The better he described the image he wanted, the more detailed and interesting it came out.
Here, read his full story of what Sam did for his book.
Let’s put some music in your book!
OpenAI has previously generated music using AI, but they did it in a straight forward way. These guys did something way more exotic. They fine-tuned an image model to make music. Yup, you read it correctly, first, they made images using AI, then they turned those images into music.
“Fine tuning” is a process of taking a regular model designed to do something, and then making it do something very specific. For example, you could upload photos of just red pandas, and thereby help the model learn what red pandas look like. Then you can request images in a “style of red panda” and it would know to create them.
In this case, the team explained what “musical images” looked like, and created those.
The best part? You can now play with this model on your own. Just change the prompt to the kind of music you want, and get those sweet 5 seconds of custom jams.
Do you think you could make a book this week?
I am serious.
You’ve got StockIMG.ai for images, and ChatGPT for the story line generation. That should be enough to get going with the basis. If you want to dive in deeper, try Midjourney or Lexica Aperture for alternative images.
Once your book is ready, let me know, and I can help you put it all together. We will enlist Smartynames to search business & domain names with ai, so you can put the book on a stand-alone domain, and once it’s all done, I will mention it in this newsletter.
It’s easier than you think, if you put your mind to it get AI to do it for you.
I am really hoping at least one of the readers sends me a book by Friday ;)
There is so much going on in AI that I can’t keep up to make a themed newsletter each week. As such, here’s a bunch of other cool AI stuff that I think you’d enjoy.
Generate product videos with AI
What an amazing tool. If you have a company or product that needs to be described on a video, but you don’t have time or budget to hire a crew and narrate - just stick it into Synthesia and voila!
Problems with AI generated design?
Are there any problems with AI? You bet. Among them, is the fact that everything will start looking the same, and boring. Be that designs, or writing, if AI can generate it, it can only generate it based on what it already knows. So it just generates a massive amount of sameness.
Write a million blog posts in seconds
Want to write some content but don’t have the time nor inspiration? Great, just use Jasper.ai. It’s got a lot of templates and languages to choose from. Literally just click around and answer some questions, and you’ve got content!
Really dope AI generated photo realistic art of Chewbacca
“I thought I’d share some of my sculpture work focused on my muse, Chewbacca.” - Joe Rinaldi on Linkedin. Using AI to create personalized art, just for fun.
Free tool to Track AI projects as they come online
https://theresanaiforthat.com - Very self descriptive. A lovely collection of all the AI tools which are coming on the market. It already has a section of dead tools too.
https://diffusiondb.com/ - same but for Stable Diffusion
How to Fine-Tune Stable Diffusion with your own images
This is a good article on how to fine-tune your own models. It’s more technical, and if you’d like to skip all of that, I’d scroll down to “Inpainting” section. The easiest way to make yourself look like an Iron Man!
Okey-dokey, I hope this was valuable.
If it was not, please yell at me. If it was, please give it a like and share because nothing makes creators happier than when someone shares their work.
I will do my best to send you more newsletters more often. If you want to help and contribute, give me a shout.
